Here’s a glimpse at my work in progress for my free choice Illustration Stitchalong piece:
I never grew up reading books by Maurice Sendak but I love his illustrations as an adult. They have their own weirdness that captures my imagination. I fell in love with this thoughtful rabbit-boy from Mr Rabbit and the Lovely Present. (Any one who knows me from my comic days will understand why).
Every new embroidery is an experiment for me and this time I decided to try out working with ‘tinted linens’. I don’t have any special fabric paints, and as this piece doesn’t need to be colour-fast I just used regular watercolour paint on a pale blue Essex linen.
Here is Mr Rabbit framed up and ready to be stitched. I’m looking forwards to seeing how this piece will turn out. Why not join our stitchalong and stitch up an illustration from one of your favourite books? Details on the Illustration flickr group here.
